Question

Deciding on New TV?

Jan 18, 2015 2:05PM PST

I've currently narrowed it down to the Vizio M502i-B1 and the Sony KDL-W700B. Both at Best Buy. The Vizio is about $600, while the Sony is close to $750. I've exhausted myself with reviews and I like the Sony a little more. BUT, is it worth the extra 150 dollars? Also, the Samsung UN-H6350 is around 700. It's 48 inches. Opinions on the two and three?

Answer
I would go for the Vizio.

From what I have read..the picture quality is very good (and $150 in the packet isn't bad either) .

None are stellar performers PQ-wise

Also, the 'Smartv' functionality is mostly gimmicks which can be replaced quickly and more efficiently.

If I were you, I would consider the Samsung PN51F5300. Last week it was still $549 and still available @ BB, last time I checked anyway. As long as you had decent room light control, you would be enjoying a much better PQ than the LED HDTVs you are looking at above.

Get the Samsung UN65HU8550.

It is bigger (65") but it is MUCH better than the others. It costs a bit more but it is worth it. Consumer Reports just rated it at the very top of its ratings.

I got one last May. I am STILL blown away by the spectacular quality of the picture. It is a 4K TV and the upconversion to 4K is truly astounding, even on SD input. Native 4K, like "Breaking Bad" on Netflix, is really, really REAL. The 3D effects from 3D sources are even superior to the high frame rate iMax 3D in theaters (I could actually follow the action in the escape downstream from the elves' prison in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"), and it is even able to synthesize 3D in a way that is almost believable.

It costs more, sure, but it's actually worth it. Trust me here. You're buying something to last you 15 years or more. You will be really SATISFIED with this!

(And don't fall for the siren song of the "curved" displays. They are actually inferior. This is a proper flat screen.)

What kills me is...

..why you think someone looking at HDTVs in the 6-700 price range could necessarily up their budget to $2K instantly(?) ROTFL

Don't overlook Toshiba

I've always been a huge Sony fan and have two Sony's in my home, both several years old and going strong. A few months ago I wanted a new tv for my bedroom. I found a 32" Toshiba 1080P (non smart) for $219. Delivered from ABT Electronics. I didn't need a smart tv because I have other options for those features. Picture quality is amazing!
I just checked ABT and found this: http://www.abt.com/product/77782/Toshiba-50L3400U.html
50" Size Class/ 1080p Full HD/ ClearScan® 120Hz/ CQ Engine - Dual Core/ Smart TV/ Built-in Wi-Fi/ 3 HDMI/ Black Finish $499 shipped and no tax. Save yourself even more and get one of these while you can.
Have fun! Cool

There's a reason you don't see many Toshibas

It's because they generally don't rate highly when you are looking at PQ. If given the chance to choose between HDTVs around the $499 price point you give, you would be silly to choose this Tosh over the Samsung plasma I listed that is still available right now.

True, however...

...only a blind person would even think about lower priced LEDs/LCDs as having better PQ than most of the current crop of plasmas(!) Wink

Sony products have quality, but they charge too much.Even sony parts are also costly than any other company,if some problem occurs to products.Check if vizio has same problem like sony.
