by Artboycat / February 8, 2006 9:07 AM PST

hi I am currenlty interested in purchasing a Mac and I am new to the boards.....I'm trying to decide if i should get the Core Duo or just stick to an Imac...On PC i work with programs such as photoshop, flash , dreamweaver and i have heard that these programs dont run as well on Core Duo....however I have also heard that there will be updates in March that will make programs such as these more it worth getting the Duo Core and waiting for the updates or should I just get a regular Imac?

Your choice here.

I lived in the times when Apple changed last time from 68K to PPC and the SAME words are being written about this and that.

If you can remember about a year after the change, the 68K sales were dead and you heard those that bought the 68K sometimes grumble...

I know what I'd buy.

Go for the Core Duo. I'll definitely wait for the March updates. The Core Duo is actually 2x faster than the old iMac.

so if i get the core duo and right out of the box i install photoshop will the program work faster then it would on my Dell Inspiron 1.60 mhz 512 mb ram laptop.....this is what I am currently using for web/graphic design, flash animation, and for scanning and touching up my illustrations...I am not using this laptop by choice but only cuz its the only option right now and its very hard to multitask with...If i get core duo and wait for the updates I still want something that works better then what I have straight out of the box....

The program you asked about is documented as to speed at it's maker's website. They even note one plugin that did fail.

If this is an issue, buy the old PPC and in one year remember what I wrote about the last time this happened.

In closing, I would not part with money on the old CPU. This is my choice and from the view of what happened last time.
