Decided on DS Lite for 9-y.o.---Thanks--Now, What do we need

Jun 11, 2007 5:33AM PDT

I appreciate all the feedback on the PSP and DS Lite. We decided to get the DS.

Now the only question is, what do we need for my son to be fully functional on Day 1??

Should we buy a starter pack?
A memory card? Which kind and how much mem?
Anything else?

Thanks to all the previous input. I think we'll consider the PSP for him when he is older (12 or so). Who knows what they'll be offering by then--3d hologram systems???

You don't need a memory card right away, I still haven't bought one for my DSlite.

I suggest buying him the New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS. Those are probably the two best games for the DS and are not hard to play for kids. You will even want to play them.

Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. are perfect for kids. My 7 year old sister plays Super Mario Bros. and loves it. If we purchased a Nintendo DS Mario Kart would be the first game I would buy.

Accessories for the DS

Memory card for the DS? I don't think there is such a thing.
The DS should come with everything you need except for games.
Games I'd recommend in addition to the ones already suggested are the GBA Super Mario (1 through 4) games that you should be able to find for cheap at any used game store.
I guess the only accessories I'd recommend are maybe a hard case to stored the system and games and a car charger if you're going to be traveling.
