My old Lenovo with a Core2Duo at 2GHz dual core and 4GB RAM with the Intel 4500MHD did 1080p fine over HDMI to the HDTV. Your machine has more CPU, twice the RAM and better graphics.
Any struggle might be from trying this on 2 megabit DSL (a recent discussion where the member wanted that to work.)
I recently installed linux (LXLE) on an old laptop (circa 2009?), and was really pleased with the results; the thing performs great for my simple purposes (web, email, netflix, ssh'ing to other machines, no gaming). The only thing I don't like about it is the low screen resolution.
So I'm looking for a budget (~$500) laptop with full 1080p resolution, 15" screen.
Toshiba looks like they can do a laptop for $519 which has a 1080p option:

My questions are:
-does this laptop look problematic in any way (e.g. might the computer struggle with the high-res screen or anything like that?)
-any other suggestions for perhaps a better deal on a 15" 1080p laptop that will get linux on it?
Thanks
