Laptops that need fans, well, need a working fan. I doubt a cooling pad will suffice. But you can try it.

A while back, my laptop was frequently overheating. Since I didn't own a screwdriver do clean it out myself and have no car to go buy one, I walked it down to a university store to get repaired. For a while it worked fine, but now the fan doesn't spin at all where before the repairs it spun loudly and constantly. Would buying a cooling mat for the laptop replace the need for a working fan, or would it only cause a minor difference. Bear in mind I'm not looking for a perfect solution and wouldn't mind a small decrease in performance. I just want my computer to avoid shutting down.
