deadend shortcuts

Dec 22, 2003 7:04AM PST

Hi and Merry Christmas! I am running ME and for about 5 years have also regularly run the performance optimizer segment of McAffee clinic. It was useful for removing shortcuts that no longer led anywhere or were duplicates. I am no longer able to load the performance optimizer and McAffee says they dont support it any longer.

Is there a way to remove shortcuts that dont shortcut and is there a way to clean up the debris left by dumping files I no longer need. I can dump .tmp and .chk and I use the ME disk cleaner, but I am pretty sure there is more junk to go.

Thanks.-Tony

Tony,

A program called EasyCleaner (there is a new version available) has the ability to clean "Unnecessary" files, as well as other things.

Although I use the above program, I do many of the chores you discuss manually. I can pick and choose which files need to be removed. Doing a search for *.LNK will bring up all shortcuts. It's your decision on which ones to clean out.

In addition, for cleaning out all the other junk on your computer, click on the link below and follow my suggestions (Parts 1-4) in the post.

Hope this helps.

I'm always playing around with shareware or demoware in order to see if I can place it in the toolbox sorta speak. I found one called Tuneup Uilities 2003. You can try it out at: http://www.tuneup.de and get the full pgm. You then have 30-days for trial, but decide to buy it. It do all you ask plus more and it runs smoothly with my winMe. Of course if you like it, the cost is very reasonable compared to other s/w out there. -----Willy
