DDR2 won't fit ?

Nov 7, 2009 10:25AM PST

I was asked by a friend to install Windows 7 into a DELL Demention 3000. It had 256mb of Ram aand needed 512mb mininum to install Windows 7. I have several sticks of DDR2 and tried to insert them into the DIMMS they won't match up with the single notch. When I place the old memory and new memory side by side there is about 1/8 inch differance in the alignment slots. Do DELL computers use a non standard DDR2?

And I think this model used DDR and not DDR2.

You might suggest to your friend to find someone else who knows more about computers. The Dimension 3000 can take 2GB of RAM but requires PC2700 or PC3200, Non-ECC DDR RAM. The system supports dual channel so your friend would be better off buying two matching modules, what Crucial refers to as a "kit".
