Question

Dc jack problems

Sep 26, 2018 10:36AM PDT

Hello everyone

So basically I dropped my laptop last week causing the dc jack to stop working, I think one side of the soldering came off so I was wondering if I could resolder it, buy another jack and resolder it or should I play it safe and bring it to a tech guy. Also there is a sort of metal band that broke in half in the back.

The usual is to replace the jack. Mid to above average solder skills are required so if this is your first work at solder, I'd have the work done if you can't practice on dead boards first.

How would one know which dc jack to buy? Is it related to the type of motherboard or would they all work?

I find them to be specific to the make and model.

Google Laptopjackrepair and you should find the usual sites that sell or do this repair.
