DB-D5300 will not connect to modem

by herbwit / January 19, 2014 11:22 PM PST

I have had this unit for about 3 years and upgraded to software version 1032.1 to resolve this problem once. It worked fine through about 3 months of Netflix and sometime after discontinuing that subscription it failed to connect to the modem using wired cat 6 Ethernet. I had been showing video and photo slide shows and it just stopped working. I tried updating with USB and it does not recognize any files. I tried resetting the unit and still no good. I tested my connection using a laptop with the radio shut off and the cable tests perfectly and I am able to display photos and videos from the USP connection.
Testing the unit network setting shows the failure in connecting to the modem. I used the addressing directly from my modem to manually set the unit and still not connecting. Phone and in store support have not been successful.

The display on the front shows ONLINE when I attempt to connect.

What next?

Hi herbwit,

Sorry to hear you are having this issue. The next step will be a factory reset. If that does not resolve the issue service will be required. Here's the thread where you can get details on setting that up:

So neither of those were successful either. I am left with a life full of Samsung devices, questioning the wisdom of that choice. The first time through on this problem the software upgrade did fine for a few months. Now the choice is to pay more than the cost of a new unit for repair or get a new unit. I guess I can live without this feature until there is some competition in this market. Perhaps from Roku or "the dark side" (Apple TV) .

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
