General discussion

David Konkel?

Nov 22, 2003 4:15PM PST

.
Dave, I think it's about time that "flooding" thread was clarified, don't you? There was absolutely no reason for that thread to go to hell.

Dave, I made two mod alerts 20 minutes apart. TWO! Unless there were dozens of others that made alerts there was NO flooding caused by anyone. Diane explained how the software is responsible for that. Is she right? If so then why was that thread allowed to continue?

This is like the other day when Lee went off the deep end on forum before he thought it out first. He shot first and thought second.

And now DE make it look like I must have sent out a gadzillion alerts and in fact blaming me for anything he can place into the imaginative minds of the members. Are you going to clear that up or not?

And why does DE have the right to post personal and private information about members?

I cannot get a post in to say anything that even hints that Jonah "didn't/don't have the faintest idea" on who David Evans was talking about. See my above deletions by DE or DK.

Would the link to the "board" be higher than Lee Koo?

Then do not make a fairy tale statement like "I didn't/don't have the faintest idea who he means,".
I have been reading Speak Easy for a very long time and you know dam good and well that you do have a definite idea! You must think people are pretty dumb.

No petty suspicions of mine...just facts that David Evans and Dave Konkel will not let me say.

Rosalie conspiracy club???? I have never communicated with Rosalie or any of the people you hate.

Tim, if you stop and think of what you suggested in applying to your own forum, you will see how inappropriate this is. I understand you feel that Rosalie has been slighted and you are trying to defend her. That is no doubt admirable.

But this is not your forum, or my forum, or any of ours. It belongs to CNET and is controlled by Lee. I rather doubt that he would appreciate what literally amounts to a mutiny against his mods in the new forums while he is fighting the software issues and the financial issues involved.

Per Lee's comments, little stands between the end of the forums due to finances and other problems, but for his persistence and attempts to keep them running for US, with the help of the volunteer mods. To infer that tribunals should be formed and we should be second guessing everything at this juncture is likely to add nails to the coffin of the forums. That is not a good thing to do. Especially not now.

How about backing off and giving things a chance, like everyone is having to with the software? If I am not mistaken, you I believe found it abhorrent for the US to interfere in the Iraqi government and their politics and to disrupt their world to impose the US's own beliefs as to how things are run. If you could see that as problematic in that setting, then perhaps you can apply the analogy to CNET, or your own forums. If you don't want people voting you and your mods into sanctions, I'm sure you can be certain Lee would feel the same about his operation.

First off, I'm not an attorney like you, so I'm not even going to bother countering point by point, which I could, but would be POINTLESS.

My suggestion was for real even though I know it would go nowhere.

I take your suggestions/post as coming from one who held power in the old forum(s), therefore, I discount virtually anything and everything that has to do with my suggestion.

Not to mention the FACT that there ARE members HERE who think you were on one "side" and came back swinging on the side of TBTB.

Some of us will never forget that.

Okay, Tim, today is Sunday still in the United States. I guess since I said it, you automatically don't believe it. It must be Thursday. Great logic!

Interpreting that to mean that I am 100% thoroughly burned out on bad behavior of people on forums, yes that is certainly true. But the point of fact is that I have had to deal with people fouling up my own forums and even sometimes trying to intentionally sabotage them, and have had to make all the same decisions Lee has to here, as well as the mods, as to how to best deal with that behavior. Even you radically changed your mind as to how easy it was to run forums once you saw how people disrespected your own forums could ruin all your best intentions.

This is not a fight Lee needs now, nor do the mods. To promote an agenda that causes more strife in here is to undermine everything that the fresh start stands for and it hamstrings Lee's credibility with HIS bosses as to the worth of this project when people in his own forums are trying to take over from the mods and him and to force new rules on them that they may or may not want.

As Angeline said, the people who ARE in a position to vote already have. Deal with it.

Back at it?

As has been said before Tim, if you don't like the way the forums are run no one is twisting your arm to remain here.

These are NOT your personal forums nor are you spending any monies for a say in how they are operated.

These are private as opposed to government operated forums and as such you can forget about any complaints of "censorship" as they are not applicable.

How about nominations from the members regarding who should be banned? Good idea or bad?

Again, participate or not but if you do not like the way things are run you ought to simply leave as that is your ONLY real choice and prerogative.

the fly leaf of the old novel, 'The Wind cannot read' has this saying...

'Though on the sign it says
do not pluck these blossoms
it is useless against the Wind
which cannot read'.

just keep coming up like bad seafood.

I remember having arguments about this with people who didn't understand that ZDNET was owned, not government, and moderators were appointed, not elected, way back in 1996 on Jesse's Berste Alerts.

Sheesh!! Sad
