Question

Date and time on the task bar

Oct 2, 2015 10:11AM PDT

Windows 7 and 8 gave the time and date on the lower right of the screen. Windows 10 only gives the time. I have spent some time researching and cannot figure out how to add the date.

If you were to ask me what time it is I could be within 5 minutes without looking even after I just woke up, but ask me the day of the month and I haven't a clue. I want my date back. Does any know how to fix it?

With me, on Windows 7, it only shows the time. It only shows date and time if i change the taskbar settings (right click>properties) to show big icons. Maybe that was your setting in Windows 7 and 8?
To see the date I hover my mouse over the time. This arrangement suits me quite well, because I don't like the big icons.

The first 2 programs discussed in http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-tray-clock-replacement.htm might help, if they still work in Windows 10. Worth a try.

Please tell your experiences.

using large icons works

I tried making the icons larger, and it did make the date show up. But with the large size 1/3 of the taskbar is now used up with something that says Search the web and windows." I tried opening up several files to see if this search panel would shrink and it doesn't. My files shrink and there is not enough writing to differentiate them. Since I normally keep several documents open at once, this doesn't work for me. I guess I can hover the mouse to see the date, but it is not what I wanted. You are probably right that I had large icons on Windows 7 and 8.

Concerning the free clock option you mentioned, I don't want a clock with more bells and whistles, I just want to add the date. The website you referenced doesn't give me any idea what I would be getting or if I could uninstall them if I didn't like them. Thanks for your ideas.

As far as I can see ...

this only changes the format, not what is shown.

it may not show if the taskbar is too narrow or using smaller taskbar buttons try resizing it if the other solutions does not work.
