Question

Data transfer between laptops without using USB

Feb 23, 2016 6:49AM PST

I have bought new laptop and i have data on my old laptop.
But there is virus on old laptop and resultantly i don't want to use usb to transfer data and infect new laptop.
Is there any other way or software through which i can securely transfer data between computers without viruses.

I have 4mb internet connection and both computers are connected to same network if that serves any purpose.

You can connect via the network, but that's just as safe or unsafe as connecting via a USB-cable.

I'd zip the files you want to transfer to one or more zip-files (or 7z or whatever), copy those to a USB-stick (you can store a lot of data on a 64 GB stick if you zip it), then on your new PC scan the data in those zip-files with your antivirus, and when clean, unzip them.

IF You've Got An External USB Hard Drive Enclosure....

...you could remove the infected hard drive, place it into the USB enclosure, connect it to the "good" computer and before opening the the external drive (make sure all "auto-run" options are disabled), perform a full virus/malware scan on the drive from Windows Explorer. If you've got a lot of files to transfer to the good computer, this would be a quicker way to clean up the files than using a flash drive. On the other hand, if you've only got a few files to move, then the advice from Kees makes the most sense.

Hope this helps.
