Data retrieval from laptop with screen U/S

Feb 12, 2009 1:01AM PST

I have a Sony Viao VGN-S4M laptop. The left hinge broke recently and at that time the screen stoped displaying and is constantly white. The left hinge co-incidently is where the cable joins the laptop body to the screen. I have been told it is possible to recover data (photos of the kids) without the screen working.
Could anybody tell me how this can be done?
Many thanks.

Thank you very very much for your response to my problem.
Looking at the 2.5-inch USB 2.0 Aluminum External Dual SATA Hard Drive & SSD Enclosure.
It states, the one-button back-up function makes it easy to backup your data; simply push the button!
I'm assuming that the laptop being copied from doesn't require to authorise a permission to access its hard drive. The external SATA HD will recover my files automatically?

Nothing is automatic.

The one button backup is a software you install on the next machine and has NOTHING to do with us regaining access to the files.

SATA HDD DOCKING STATION
Apr 18, 2009 4:08AM PDT

Bob,
I have picked up a SATA HDD docking station and have placed the old hard drive from the Viao into the docking station.
I can find no way of accessing this device, although my laptop confirms that the new device is functioning properly with the required drivers.
Without being too technical, any ideas?
Many many thanks!

I picked up a docking station and it turned out to be defective. Share what you used.

SATA HDD Docking station

It appeared my SATA HDD had a problem - something to do with a rebooting issue if I remember correctly. Anyway, a techno geek copied the contents of my HDD onto his system, and transfered this onto my new HDD. The old HDD is now reformated and available via the docking station as a back up hard drive.
