As you didn't mention the model name/ number of the LaCie external drive; I can only point you in the direction of software updates for all LaCie external drives, your product might just need a firmware/ software update to get it running a bit faster.
I have a corrupt LaCie 200GB drive. The drive mounts and all files appear, but when I attempt to access any file the drive crawls at snail pace. I have tried to copy the contents to a new drive with equally slow results, some files fail to copy all together.
I demoed Data Rescue 3 and it succeeded in copying one mp3 file that I could not copy before. It was a 6MB file and it took DR3 9 minutes to copy it to the new drive. This is progress, but some quick math tells me it would take many many days to copy the entirety of the 200GB drive in this fashion. Seems unrealistic given the state of the drive.
So I am trying to determine if I should purchase the full version of DR3 and attempt the copy, or if there is a better way to handle this task.
The corrupt drive seems stable now (no clicking), but I fear it is failing and want to transfer the data soon.
