Goto another PC and try swapping only that file or 1 file period. If that gets done, copy that same file to a flash drive that can hold it. Now, return to your laptop and try to copy the file from flash drive to your laptop, what are the results?
Offhand, it appears the HD maybe getting flaky if it repeats this CRC error on other files. -OR- it really didn't do a good job in the 1st place storing to that ext. HD as you have corrupted data. This could be a problem of an "overheated" HD if used alot or frequent back and forth operation or a super huge file. You gave no clue or details of what's really at stake here. I wouldn't be trusting this ext. HD and start getting a replacement if h/w error based.
