"D" drive

When I enter a brand new CD-R and go to Properties the drive space shows FULL!! The computer doesn't recognise it and asks for a disc to be inserted but when I press "eject" the disc is ejected from the drive ! What is going on?

There's no software in the list to allow the drive to function as a disk drive. No DirectCD, InCD or other.

CDBurnerXP was offered, but they need some more PC skills it appears.
