Cyberlink PowerProducer Gold not working - help!

Jan 13, 2005 12:21AM PST

Hi,
I recently bought a laptop that came bundled with a load of Cyberlink software, and most of it works fine.
The only problem is with PowerProducer Gold. I tried to start up the program, only to find I got this message:
"Producer MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
The other major problem is that the laptop came with no install discs, and the company can't get me any because they're tight, so I'm pretty stuck as I can't reinstall anything.
If there's anyone who has experienced a similar problem or knows how I can solve this without reinstalling, please help!
Thanks,
Matt

Foaly, Some Major Brands Provide....

...a "Recovery Partition" on the computer or it allows you to create "Recovery CDs" so that you can reinstall specific programs or in some cases, do a complete reformat and reinstall of the entire computer back to factory condition. Some brands give you the actual reinstall CD's.

With some brands, on XP HOME, the computer may have special recovery programs in the Start-Programs menu, but you'll need to look through each of the Program menu options.

Now my personal thought about your situation....
Is this a new computer running XP? If that's the case, and the programs are defective, especially since the company won't provide "reinstall CDs", then you might consider taking it back. I would NEVER get a computer without some method to restore it...Just understand...Sooner or later you're computer may need to be repair or restore the operating system. Only a Windows XP CD, or a Recovery CD or Recovery partition will allow you to do that. Without those repair options, you're left high and dry. DEMAND those reinstall CDs if you don't have them.

Hope this helps.

Me either. If you have any doubts of the problems this will cause, just read some of the posts from others who don't have a restore CD set or the operating system CD.

A thought

Just to squeeze a little on what GRIF said.

I would not accept a machine that did not have recovery on EXTERNAL media.

These recovery partitions sound good until your HD goes to HD HEAVEN and then your SOL.

I'm a belt+suspenders type.
Full windows install cd and a copy.
HD image monthly.

IF it is XP, I would also check and make

sure it's not pirated. Better to find out now than later.

ill just get someone to get me a copy from somewhere if theres no other solution - highly illegal, but it works.

Was that a bad idea?

Admitting that you would resort to highly illegal acts in a forum that you have to supply a valid email address to seems to me ...

"A bad idea."
