Tom, Forget The Update...

Simply download a new one from the link below. It's easier especially if you've got an older version for which there are no updates. Merjyn has passed the program along to a new company.:

CWShredder 2.1 Hijack Removal Tool

Hope this helps.

Hi Grif,
I just recently installed CW 2.1,any other ideas.
Thanks,

You HAVE the newest
Dec 22, 2004 9:48AM PST

one then Tom. There ARE no updates. Just remember that when you run that tool, ALL other windows have got to be closed for it to work properly. If they are not closed cwshredder will probably close them for you but you are better off closing them yourself first.

Hi Roddy,
I understand, but what confuses me is when I click on "click here to download update" a window appears that says"save as",whats up with that.
Thanks,
Tom

I don't know why
Dec 22, 2004 10:08AM PST

you are getting that Tom, if I click on mine, I get a message saying "you are running the latest version of cwshredder". Underneath that it says "click here to view the CoolWebSearchChronicles"(the history and what is actually checked). If you close all the windows and run the tool and it works properly, I would not worry about the updates problem for now. When a new version becomes available, you will know about it because you are here a lot and we will do the same thing as last time, delete yours and download the new one, In the meantime, if it is working other than the updates, don't worry about it for now.

I would also like to take this time to say that there are many computer forums, and their good, but there's something that sets CNET apart from the rest, probally the personal touch and of course it goes without say, the experience.I was helped many times and also interesting reading, which I can equate to a good book.
Thanks people & have a save holiday,
Tom

You're welcome Tom and also doublecheck
Dec 22, 2004 10:42AM PST

the version like Grif said to make sure you have 2.12 but I'm pretty sure you do because you and I went through all this when this version came out if I remember correctly because I remember you having problems with the first download. LOL Have a great holiday.

Tom, There Are Actually TWO 2.1 Versions...Check It
Dec 22, 2004 10:36AM PST

The newest is the 2.12 version. Open the one you already have installed. It will tell you the specific version on the first page.

The older link looked the same but the older version was 2.11 while the newest 2.12 fixed a few false positive issues. If you need the 2.12 version, you can use the link I used previously.

Give it a "look see".

Hope this helps.

The New Intermute Installer Places The File...
Dec 22, 2004 11:07AM PST

...in the C\Program Files\Intermute\CWShredder folder. Once you download the new version, you can delete the entire CWShredder folder from that location. If it's not there, do a search for "CWShredder" and you'll find exactly where it is.

When I downloaded the newest 2.12 version recently, it no longer "installs" in the same manner as the first 2.1 version. You simply download it to a location and run it.

Hope this helps.
