Resolved Question

Custom ROMs on the XOOM

Aug 10, 2011 11:29PM PDT

Hello, Is there some way that i can boot a ROM (like cyanogen) from the sd card slot on my xoom? I have heard you can do that on the nook, so that way you don't have to root your device and void the warranty. Can the same be done for the XOOM?

Possibly but...

But how to install such is often at the web site you get those Custom ROMs. As the install instructions change with the versions it would be a very bad idea to duplicate those instructions here as the ROM could change as well as the install instructions.

As to the WARRANTY. All the makers are voiding the warranty if you install a custom ROM. I thought they were clear about that.

Thanks for clearing that.

THAT WOULD BE A NICE TRICK.

Sorry but my personal experiences with Android versions all have me replacing the existing firmware.

Sorry but I need to comment about ROM versus FLASH. Very few devices are using ROM today and not one Android is ROM based. ROM is not replaceable via updates but by swapping out the chips.

That makes sense.

That was a cool piece of info. So I should call them FLASH?

Your choice.

Not to dwell on that long, but FLASH would be a better term to use but I find it better to nod at times like this.
