Cursor scrolls horizontally

by Mrs_Pippi / April 10, 2007 3:28 PM PDT

My cursor keeps scrolling as if I'm holding down the space bar. I am using an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why or when this happens. which it is right now. Thank yo ufor any help you can provide.

If You're Using XP& If You're Using A Mouse, Have You Tried?
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / April 10, 2007 3:43 PM PDT

....pressing the button to turn OFF the touchpad? Using only one or the other will frequently help.

Or...

If you're using a mouse, open the Control Panel, double click on the "Mouse" icon, then click on the "Pointer Options" tab, then UNCHECK the "Enhance Pointer Options" box. You can also UNCHECK the "Snap To" box as well. Click on Apply, then OK.

Hope this helps.

I am using XP MCE, but not a mouse. I no ti ce too that while it's scrolling my backspace key does not work..I guess just b/c the cursor is stuck?
I called the store whre it came from and he says he sees it alot, but wants me to come in to do a $50 diagnostic check first and it could take 2wks+ before it get s fixed. This computer is used for college so I don't have that long to wait, unfortunately if that's what it'll take I guess I'll have to do it.
Was hoping it is something I could fix myself though. I'm new to the laptop, but I know my way around comptuers a little bit..no expert though! That's why i came here : )

Now that we know you're using the touchpad, do the suggestions help?

Tried but..
by Mrs_Pippi / April 11, 2007 1:05 AM PDT

In pointer options it had Enhanced Pointer Precision but not options and I don't see Snap To.
I did go into it however and disable horizontal and vertical scrolling and maximized the PalmCheck.
So far so good, now it's "wait and see" if it happens again.
Thank you so much!

It took day for the site to work properly but I reinstalled the synaptics driver and so far so good although three times now i've had pages "jump" down to the bottom. So we'll see how it goes..any ideas if it didn't fix it?
I really appreciate the help!

Started again

Hi All,
Well it started doing it again, very frustrating. Maybe a few more notes on what i've discovered can help. If I put the cursor somewhere that it can just go forever--word document, address bar-- and type a few letters, it seems to stop it for a bit.
There really is no obvious cause for it to start, it's completly random I think.
any other ideas? Thanks so much.
