cursor problem in a game

Mar 3, 2004 3:43AM PST

Have a win98 toggled with winXP 2002

Win98 is used only for games so not connected to
internet or printer etc.

Am playing game Sanitarium on 98 that has two cursor settings: arrow to move characters
magnifying glass to examine things

Had no problem until now after having solved a puzzle have discovered that I no longer have an arrow cursor setting so that I cannot move about in the game - can only examine things, listen to character talk about what he sees.

Any ideas/suggestions what might have happened? Did I do something that might have caused this?

Re:cursor problem in a game

Have just discovered that when on 98 and I try to right click any program, instead of a menu I get a round white button with little arrows one points upward and the other downward and they are separated by a dot.

I cannot access any programs by right clicking. Might this be the answer to my posted game problem? Also what can I do to reverse this situation re right clicking and not getting the proper menu?

Right click problem
Mar 4, 2004 8:38PM PST

Right click seems to have the effect of clicking on the wheel (to set 'continuous scroll' mode). Either the mouse is defective, or the mouse settings are such that this function is assigned to the right click.

Check mouse settings and try another mouse.

The cursor problems might be related to mouse settings also. Try what happens if you uninstall the mouse software. Basic functions should still work (supported by Windows 98 itself). Then reinstall and see what happens.

Good luck,

Kees

Tried your suggestions and stumbled on the fact that for some reason the settings were assigned differently so that the right click needed a universal scroll feature and not that white button (whatever that was) feature. When I re-assigned the settings, the cursor problem in the game cleared up also.

Thanks for your help
