Question

Cursor Moves and Clicks Randomly Only With Mouse Enabled

Jul 2, 2017 11:13AM PDT

I have an HP Spectre x360, 64 bit i7 with 8GB ram, running Windows 10 Home, about page lists version as 1703. I am using a Logitech M510 wireless USB mouse with the Logitech unifying receiver. This problem began today out of the blue when first I noticed the MMB arrow icon appearing and disappearing randomly without middle clicking, and then that when I would hover the mouse over something, the cursor would eventually click on it on its own. Then I began having the cursor fly to the bottom or upper left corner of the screen (it seems to go instantly) and stay there. These problems only occur when the mouse is connected and switched on. I have tried cleaning the optical part of the mouse, switching USB ports, updating drivers for the receiver and mouse, disabling "Enhance pointer precision" and nothing has made a difference. The touchpad works normally and I have not tried another mouse or this mouse with another computer because I do not have another mouse or computer. I don't normally post on forums but I can't find another post anywhere with a similar problem. Any help would be appreciated, and let me know if more info is needed.

Boot a LIVE DVD of some distro you like. Install solaar.

sudo apt-get install solaar

If it doesn't work then, you have hardware problem. If it does, then you have software problem.

I'd really try another mouse. Just ask a friend who has one to visit you and it take it with him. No need for a wireless mouse; any USB mouse will do and you don't even need to install a driver for it.

And since it's a laptop it's just as easy to take your laptop with you if you visit him (of family, or neighbor, or work, or school, or - in fact - any place where you can ask somebody to try their mouse on your laptop).

This is much easier and faster than burning a Linux disc and booting from that.

I tested both this mouse with another computer and a different mouse with this computer and it's definitely a mouse issue. Any chance for a fix other than a new mouse? I changed the batteries as soon as the problem started, and the mouse isn't very old, I'd hate to have to buy a new one though I doubt I held onto any warranty info. Oh well

Usually it just freezes when battery starts making problems, but worth a look.
