Curious, can someone explain who or what is "Togo"

May 8, 2006 1:34PM PDT

Seems to have been used as some sort of username. Google reveales Togo is a Western Africa nation where 61% of the people over 15 can read & write.

Just recently I noticed another poster picking up an imaginary 'Togo' usage sort of like the imaginary "Harvey" and using is as a replacement to not take responsibility for what they are saying.

Thanks, I skipped over that thread

"Next Presidential Election..."
thinking it was just another political hassle type. Wink

I see "Togo" now being used as a "Harvey" or subterfuge. Oh well.

To link to the origin of B.INg'Oes origin would probably exhume more rancor from those that feel disenfranchised here in SE.

Togo is a cute, furry little monkey...

who always refers to himself in the third person. Comic relief.

The answer, as I recall
May 8, 2006 9:32PM PDT

is that Togo is an adopted pseudonym by a member here. You get to figure out their true identity. Others did this as well. It was done in a mockery of another poster a while back. I presume it was meant also as a form of humor. As such, it may have meaning only to those who visited SE about that time Togo came to be. Happy

Thanks, Togo is EdH...
May 9, 2006 1:28AM PDT

It was used several times in the, ''Why isn't socialism dead?'' thread and it sorta threw me.

Found the mockery thread. Deimos Sallustros apparently quit posting in CNet after that having posted 123 times:
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7813-0.html?forumID=50&threadID=159147&messageID=1766509

EdH was the 1st to use and appointed himself with
the adopted pseudonym of Togo, ''In the future EdH will rfefer to himself as...''Togo the monkey'':

Well, yes and no...

And I doubt Deimos Sallustros quit posting because of Togo. That would be ridiculous. Deimos has always posted intermittently with long gaps between posts. I doubt he is THAT thin-skinned.

When I first saw your note
May 8, 2006 11:14PM PDT

I thought the reference might be to the 'toga' in the recent shindig with president Bush in which is comic double said, "Toga! Toga! Toga!"

When I looked it up, I saw this which could have been alluding to the president's former college life as a frat boy.

I may have been reaching a bit. Happy

to the toga party article in Wikipedia. I don't remember now if I even saw the movie. Happy

Thought you might not be familiar with it...

for my generation "Toga Toga" is instantly recognized as a reference to the movie. No question that was what the joke was.
