Feb 27, 2014 5:31AM PST

Hi there, I was thinking about ordering a smartphone off of Amazon. It is called the Cubot Gt72, here are the specs:

Model:Cubot GT72
Band:GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
Service Provide:Unlocked

I would just like to know whether the phone will work here in the U.S. Thank you

It claims to work on ATT however.

For 70 bucks isn't that outstanding a deal. I don't see a good warranty here so why not? That is, you won't be unhappy if it fails.

Rather not waste 70 bucks

Ya but I would rather not waste 70 dollars on a phone that doesn't even work. I don't even care if it cant connect to 3g or 4g, all I need is calling and texting

Then don't buy it.

While I see they claim it works on USA ATT networks that's not good enough for you. Don't buy!

Don't forget about ATT frequency band allocations

FWIW, in some areas, ATT has re-farmed (=carved out/eliminated) part of their available GSM spectrum for 3G/4G. So it's possible that you may receive less than ideal service with a handset than does not include the 3G frequency bands. For ATT right now, you should have a handset that includes UMTS 850 & 1900. The old trusty quad-band GSM handset is more useful in some ways for international travel than it is in the US.

Considering this phone is generally a poor performer if you read the reviews @ Amazon, and the fact that it comes in at least two flavors, one of which does *not* include the bands you need for North America, you might consider looking around for something else, even if it means spending a little more.

The good thing is Amazon has decent return policies though. In that sense it's not a huge deal. Just test it out thoroughly the first couple weeks you get it.
