Ctrl+F doesnt work in a string, using IE

Apr 20, 2005 4:29AM PDT

I was using my computer, with FF, and had no problems with the 'find' feature. With my puter down temporarily, Im using my wifes IE. Seems once Im in a string, 'find' wont work. Possibly it doesnt work for links? Or is this an unintentional side effect of a recent upgrade? Or is is something odd with this pute? Thanks

In IE, in

When you are in an IE window, if you press Ctrl-F, it should open a "Find" window.

That Find window searches from whatever high-lighted item you have and onward; unless you make the search direction "Up" in which case, it will search from your high-lighted point and backward.

If you don't have any high-lighted point, then it will search from the beginning of that IE frame to the end. Searches sometimes will not search outside the current frame.

But as for searching just a "string" (how are you defining that?) the search will be that area and much more than just a string.
For example, here in this "Message body" area, where I am key-stroking this message, the Find searches my entered text AND the rest of the entire web page I am on right now.

If you are not getting these sort of actions, I would suspect something is amiss.

lets try this:

You have to click somewhere in the page. I have found (using the page you mentioned) that nothing gets found, even when searching for the letter "a" or a " "(space) or even a "." period. Any of those things ought to have found something, either searching up or down (I tried both directions). But, instead, it found nothing.

So then I just clicked somewhere in the window, and then did my Find, and it worked just fine.

Note: whenever I do a search that finds nothing, I then enter in a search pattern (some words or letter I can see, in or near the area I am sure I want to search. If the Find doesn't find anything, I know that something is wrong and I ensure I click in the area to search, and try again.

That won't get "fixed" because it is not a function of the forum. It is a function of Windows.

When you do a search, Windows has to know where to search from, what point. So you touch on a point withing the area you know to be correct, and then press Ctrl+F.
