While this is nice, and I know it takes a while to assemble a list like this (I have done so many times myself), you will notice that many of the symbols and characters do not show properly in this forum. That is because this forum software does not fully support the entering of HTML codes. Also your list is short by about "eleventy-seven"
more.
There are tons! of other symbols, characters and special characters, plus special Word formatting and commands that can be done via the keyboard, like
Ctrl-left-click to select a whole sentence, or
Shift-F3 to change case (CAPS, lower, or Sentence Case)
and, again, TONs! more.
I find learning just a few keyboard characters and commands, that I use often, is more useful. Of course making up those lists can be very useful in self-learning those features myself.
As for all of your keystrokes to show the select few symbols that you have done, perhaps a more useful keystroke set would be to tell people how, in Word, to see the actual Word window that shows all of the characters, that the user can just select from.
Like: Alt-I-S (command Insert Symbol)
which opens a window on the screen to show the symbols and special characters (on a tab of that window).
And even in Windows, not just relegated to Word, is the Character Map window. That shows all the special characters in any selected font, with an easy way of copying your selection(s).
Either open a Run window and enter "charmap"
(Windows-R, type "charmap" press Enter)
or, in Windows XP:
Select: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map
Of course you are correct, but I listed the few which I felt would be most frequently used by most people.
There are many out there who just do not know about Ctrl etc or even how to use Macros .
Therefore this is my atempt to put something back into the system.

Thank you I have printed your sheet
I am going to post a query on the site Asking if people want a Tips page
Lets see if we get a response.
I have tried some of the shortcuts in Word 2003 and it does not work, e.g. making letters with the German Umlaute. Any ideas?
Peter
The procedure is located in one of our "Tip" threads at the link below. Instead of finding the "cents" symbol as in the example, find the German Umlaute and the letter you want :
