CRT monitor blurring

Jul 4, 2006 1:53AM PDT

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with my monitor.

Basically when it first turns on and say i've been using windows for about 10minutes its perfectly clear and crisp.

But then it kinda blurrs the text in some places of the screen.

Also say I have had screen saving going for about 30mins and I come back to my PC initially it is clear and crisp but then it will fade and go blurry in some places.

Any ideas what this could be or what the possible solutions are?

Cheers.

CRT Blurring

It would help to know what make and model of monitor you have, but generally, CRTs, the glass vaccuum tube-type, NOT flat panels, can be affected by small magnetic fields.

The magnets in your speakers or even your phone are enough to do the trick.

Try this:

1. Move any speakers you might have away from the monitor.
2. Move any phones or other potential source of magnetic interference away from the monitor.
3. Find and use the monitor's ''Degauss'' function, if it has it. This will randomize the magnetic field and perhaps, solve your issue.

Good luck!

(read the little red note just above the reply box)

*****MOVE***** any speakers. While you can "turn off" the sound coming out of any speaker, you are not turning off the magnets.

Simply turning off the speakers is useless.

MOVE anything that would generate an EM field AWAY from the monitor. Any speakers, phones, ac adapters, etc. that might be next to the monitor could be the problem, but you're not giving us enough info to be able to help you.

#1 What make & model monitor?
#2 What video card are you using?

Hi,

Heres the info:
---------------
1280x1024 at 85hz.
Monitor: CTX 19" 951F
Graphics card: GF4 4200Ti

Another info:
-------------
Basically the problem aint so annoying at 1024 x 786
but its still blurry.

Also it isn't as bad when the brightness is lowered either, but it still ain't as crisp as it is as soon as you deactivate the screensaver after the PC's been idle.

After idle(with screensaver) *CRISP* -----10mins---> Its blurry!

Thanks for any help.

CTX monitors are low-end products. You monitor is probably showing its age and/or weakness. No amount of tweaking will bring it back, more than likely a componet is starting to fail and/or circuit. You should try a monitor adj. output test to see what it is when its prefect. If it fails after any tweaks, then the monitor h/w is going kaput. As for speakers, simply unplug them and move them far out of the way to prove yes/no they are a cause of your problem.
