General discussion

criteria for a camera case? They really "necessary"?

Samsonite TM90BK

was one case I was looking at.

Seems solid enough. Altho it doesn't look like a hard case, looks like it has some protection vs impacts and crushing as well. This would be for my Nikon Coolpix L12.

My (possible) concern is if this isn't in my front pocket, I'll be carrying it in my backpack where it'll be anywhere from empty to filled with loose stuff like books and small boxes. Would you folks say that crushed/damaged digicams, scratches to the screen, and accidental turn-ons are a concern for such a model?

I suppose it would be convenient to have secure place for cards and extra batts. Anything else I should look for in a digicam case? Weather-proof/resistant, ...... whatever?

are there also functional cases as well?

Do they make cases that protect the camera while allowing allow you access to its buttons, LCD, and other features for taking pics? I'm aware of waterproof casings for digicams, but I've never actually seen "gerenal protection cases" like this.

About the camera case...

Well, to me, that happens to be the perfect camera case.

It is always good to keep you camera in a case from moist conditions and dust.

It is a great compact size and will fit in a pocket.
I really dont think it is nessessary for it to be water proof, just dont be gumby and get water into it.

I rekon that the case needs a shoulder strap. Its very handy in some situations, and its not always reliable to keep it in your poket, well....because of pickpokets!

and it is really always best to have your camera on our side!

your choice really!

I wouldnt buy it cause of the strap....
....im sure there are loads more!!!!!!!!

thanks for the reply

I ended up going to Walmart and getting a case there. The ones I were interested in were all under $7. It was between

A
can fit spare batts AND digicam

B
provides some rubber-esque, hard casing to better protect vs falls and crushing

C
both A & B, but too big to fit into case.

I ended up going with case A

C
Too big to fit into pocket

case A, a Case Logic brand appears to offer minimal protection vs crushes and drops, but I figured my old Nikon Coolpix 880 in my backpack survived, my new one should too despite that its a compact and the 880 was a "small clunker"
