Creative Zen Sleek not responding; help please?

Sep 10, 2005 10:49PM PDT

I've used my Creative Zen Sleek for maybe a week, but when I turned it on today, it just hung there at one of the start-up screens. It's still got the backlight on too.

I've turned the button lock on and off, connected it up to my computer (my computer didn't even register it) and tried recharging it briefly. None of this worked. I'm not even able to turn it off, since it doesn't respond to that either.

Currently, my only thought is to let it run out of battery and turn itself off, then recharge it and hope it goes through start up properly. Is this a good idea? Any better suggestions? (I could take it back to the shop, but it's got a lot of my favourite CDs on there which are now in storage and therefore inaccessible.)

there's a little hole at the bottom of the player. stick a straightened paper clip through it, and it'll reset.

reset button problem
Sep 14, 2005 11:07AM PDT

I had the same problem where it froze up, so I hit the reset button (fyi it erases the hard drive). The problem now is that when I connect the zen to my pc, the pc only recognizes the connection for a few seconds. The screen on the zen goes into ''docked'' mode for the same amount of time and then resumes as if it is not connected to the pc so I can't upload any files. So now I have an unfrozen, empty mp3 player...any suggestions?

Hack to get around XP requirement?
Sep 22, 2005 12:38AM PDT

Does anyone know a way to get around the last minute addition of the Windows XP only requirement? I hate XP, and I'm really trying to avoid buying it, but right now I'm stuck with a $200 player where I can only load music at a buddy's house. (Ha, so much for DRM)

try this

i figured out the solution to the problem i previously posted. you need to enter recovery mode. do this by holding down the 'play/pause' button and then hitting the reset button with a paperclip. Let go of the play button after it loads up to the recovery screen. Then select "Disk Cleanup". at least i think thats what it says. anyways, that should solve the problem.

Don't be afraid of the reset button. It does not erase the hard drive.
