Creative Zen and ACC from iTunes

Oct 6, 2007 12:17AM PDT

Hi!
I've been reading and viewing a lot of reviews of the new Creative Zen. It says that it can play ACC files from iTunes but you can't trasfer them via iTunes. Is it possibel to find the files, you bought at iTunes, on the harddrive and then drag them to the player?

AAC files from iTunes

You can find the pathway in iTunes. Look at your "Purchased Music" playlist. Right click on a song and select "get info". On the bottom of the summary tab you'll find the pathway to your music file. Do this for all of your purchased music. Once you find the files, then you should be able to drag them onto your player. But you won't be able to put songs on a non-iPod player if they are protected - they need to be the unprotected iTunes plus tracks or the stuff that you ripped from cds. You probably already knew that but I wanted to mention it anyway for those that didn't. This method is fine if you don't have a lot of purchased songs.

You can also do a search of your hard drive, provided your default selection for ripping cds isn't AAC. You'll want to look for files with .m4a - this file extension is for unprotected songs. If you listen to podcasts, you may get a few of these in your results since some put podcasts are put out in AAC format. You should be able to drag from there.

By the way, protected purchased content from iTunes are .m4p

if you can play them in iTunes

Then those songs reside on your computer. Try looking for the iTunes folder in "My Music." Inside the iTunes folder should be an "iTunes Music" folder, if you didn't change the defaults.

Try looking at your purchased music list in iTunes again (green icon-ed list in the left pane that says purchased music). Right click on a song. And then at the bottom of the first tab (called "summary") will be the location of that particular song.

I'll give you an example of one of mine. I changed the defaults so that iTunes puts all of my music, both purchased and ripped, onto another drive on my laptop in a folder that I named.

D:\\Music and Video Library\Crowded House\Recurring Dream - The Very Best of Crowd\03.Fall At Your Feet.m4p

This tells that this particular song (Fall At Your Feet) is on the D drive in the Music and Video Library folder (which I named myself). Furthermore, it is in an artist folder called Crowded House, within that folder is another folder for the album (Recurring Dream). The file itself is Fall At Your Feet.m4p (this is a protected track).

If the song is part of a compilation album, it could be in a folder called "Compilations."

Makes me wonder why you are buying from iTunes if you have a Zen. Buy from Amazon's mp3 downloads.
