Creative Zen 16gb - problem with song space

Sep 10, 2009 9:53PM PDT

I have a 16gb creative zen. I have only got 1,866 songs on it but there is only 721mb left of available space. There are no videos on it and only 15 photos (which came with it). I know its meant to be based upn an average of 4minutes per song...but surely with space for 8,000 songs based upon that...there should still be alot more space left, even if half the songs were twice as long?

im quite disappointed as i thought i would have lots of room for my music and have lots more to put on.

Has anyone any advice?
Thankyou

You get to learn about the file system used, slack space, if a directory or folder eats space and more. It's not easy to dissect but if you read marketing (trash?) they take some 1 minute song and use that as the basis for so many thousand. Your choice of ENCODING has an impact too.

This is not an offer to duplicate web content but to get you started on your research.

If they are mp3 files, here's the approximate amount of space they will take up on your player (assuming constant bit rate):

4 minute song at 320Kbps = 9MB x 1900 songs = 17GB
4 minute song at 256Kbps = 7MB x 1900 songs = 13.3GB
4 minute song at 192Kbps = 5.5MB x 1900 songs = 10.45GB
4 minute song at 128Kbps = 4MB x 1900 songs = 7.6GB
