General discussion

creative labs zen touch 20gb

Mar 2, 2009 8:47AM PST

I got one of these years ago and didn't use it for some time.

Now I try to transfer the files and it won't sync properly. The firmware is out of date. I don't want to update though because it will wipe out the songs on there and don't want to loose them.

The sync manager will fail every time I try it with xp, I have installed all the up to date software from creative but it won't work. With vista I haven't found anything that works.

Is there a way to save the music and get it transferred or will I have to start from scratch?

...but until one comes along, I would suggest looking in the Zen's PC Connection setup screen to see if you can switch it from Media Player connect(called MTP in my LG player) to Removable Drive/Drag and Drop connection (called MSC in mine).

BACKUP. Keep a copy of song on the Zen on your PC you uploaded it from. And burn it to CD or DVD from that PC also.

That way, starting all over is easy, even with a totally new player if the old one breaks down or you lose it.

How do you know the firmware is out-of-date? If it works, generally it keeps working. I can't imagine the software on the XP giving such an error message (but maybe it does, indeed).

updating firmware does not wipe out the songs. only formatting player does. As for syncing issues it might be the software things as well so consider reinstalling.

If you can afford it the best solution though would be to ebay that brick and get the real touch player - e.g. the new zen x-fi 2
