Question

Creation of database

Jun 17, 2015 6:57AM PDT

Hi, I'm new here and this is a first post so yep hi Happy

I'm looking to build a small database of brand artwork (packaging, POS materials, etc.) that also includes lead creative work that has been done for us by various agencies, such as headlines/taglines for products, short paragraphs of text that have been used in catalogues etc. so that we have all creative work in one place, that can be accessed by anyone in the company.

I initially thought to do this in Excel, but the problem arises when it comes to incorporating images. Could anyone therefore recommend either:
- Database software which incorporates images
- A way of using alternative generic office software to achieve these goals
- How to use excel for image databases (e.g. can a cell be assigned an image? And is there a way of incorporating to a lot of images in excel with the file size exploding?)

It would need to be 'user-friendly' aka it needs to allow anyone in the company to input this information, search the database and manage it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mel

I'd search a software company or freelancer that can make you a nice webapplication on your intranet.

Somebody with the right experience (that's not me!) should be able to make something worthwhile and userfriendly enough in two months or so.

Old school method, still in use at the office.

We have an Assets folder up on the server (which is religiously backed up and guarded) which content is filed in folders. So if I want a picture of the Toa324 I head to that folder and there are product documents, pictures and more in folders there.

I'm sure someone would think this outdated but it's been something we've used since 1993 way back on DOS and Novell server days.
