General discussion

creating an ipod store account

Mar 30, 2010 12:27PM PDT

I purchased an ipod for my daughter and tried to set up an istore account because she said all of the free downloads are there...but i can't without giving my credit card #...well that isn't making sense to me...is this the only way to get the games...i am so new at this, and petrified at the idea of my visa on her ipod...

a friend got one for her son then got him a gift card from future shop, guess the son over spent and he was able to download the extra, but got an email asking for the difference, his mom wouldn't pay...so now he can't get on the istore....

help...and sorry that i am asking such basic questions....

There are no "free" downloads at any Apple site (with the exception of certain free apps for the iPhone).

Your Vista will not fit or work on her iPod.

iTunes will install on most PCs, which will give you access to the Apple store. Store, as in you give money, they give you "stuff".

that middle line.

There is no need for your VISA information to be on your daughters iPod.

Once you have installed iTunes on your computer, PC or Mac, you can create an account at the iTunes Music Store by purchasing an iTunes gift card and giving it to your daughter. Then there is no need for her to have access to your card.

There is also a procedure for setting up Parental Controls on iTunes which "may" control any out of order spending.

Apple does offer a Free music track of the week but I doubt that is what your daughter is referring to.

...and say that I think you can also set up your iTunes account to require a password in order to purchase anything. So you could also control her account that way - you keep the password.

In other words, set up the account and keep the password yourself. Then buy some iTunes gift cards and add them to the account. That way she can purchase using that without using your credit card.

(Anyone feel free to correct me if I have mis-stated here! Happy )
