General discussion

Creating a website mainly for photos

Aug 16, 2005 2:27AM PDT

I'd like to post my photos on my own website, problem is I don't know the first thing about creating websites.

After I buy and register the domain, I'd like a web hosting/design service that can help me publish my pictures on the website very easily. (in other words, a something for the HTML-challenged- i cannot even understand Dreamweaver)

I googled some terms and found services like Blue Voda, Infinology, Actual Drawing, Registrar.com...Suggestions much appreciated!

Why not

goto your ISP's home page to begin with, and look there.

Your ISP, (Internet Service provider), will possibly have an amount of web space reserved for your use, and although it will not be your own domain name, it will be sufficient for you to set up your own home page and upload photos to it. You will aslo get your own home page url, the internet address you would access the page by.

Many ISP's also now provide instructions on how to set up a home page, and also a method to help you set up your own online within their site.

It would be a good place to begin, and start learning about making your own web site.

hi. i'm not a regular reader of this forum (though i should; it's got some good info) so as i browsed through some of the subject titles, i saw yours. i hope you haven't plunked down any money yet cuz there are a number of sites that will give you free server space to post your pictures. here are some examples:

* http://www.webshots.com/homepage.html
i personally like this site because it's free, easy to set up, and important to me, allows you to post pictures that aren't really small. by that, i mean it can be something like 800 x 600; a lot of other places only let you post something really small like 400x300. furthermore, you can browse and see other people's pictures. pretty cool. this place would be my first choice.

* http://www.buzznet.com/
another free site. not as easy to set up but not very complicated. it also gives your friends a chance to leave comments regarding your pictures.

* http://www.shuttertalk.com
a cool photo community. you can increase your knowledge of photography and get a free gallery.

of course, there are others but i hope this helps.

no need to spend a lot of time learning about html to post your pictures for the world to see!

good luck.

Do you want a site just to store your pictures or are you looking for a site so that others can see your pictures? If you need a site so that you have a place to store your pictures so that you can clear your memory card, then you need to look at this site. www.photoarchives.myphotomaxusa.com Here you can obtain your own FREE website, upload all your digital pictures from your camera and your camera cell phone, no matter where you are. You can then organize them into albums, and you can share those albums with your friends and loved ones, by inviting them to your site to view them. You can make them into DVDs, put them on mugs, mouse pads, and much more. Your photos are backed up and stored in a granite vault. ALL THIS FOR FREE!! Check it out.
