Created Guest account, now Admin account not visible

Dec 5, 2014 2:38AM PST

Help!

I just created a guest account on my Dell Inpsiron laptop. Now my admin account is no longer visible and when I try to switch user, my account name and password don't work. When I go to Control Panel, I can access my Admin account from there, but still I can no longer log in to it even after I've logged off and restarted the computer. I've also created another Admin account to try to get around this, but I no longer have access to all my files!

Please help!

That's why we create at least two more admin accounts so when it boots the next time the built in admin account that should vanish will vanish and we can use the other accounts leaving the hidden one for the reasons it was there hidden.

I don't know how long you've been around Windows but boot Safe Mode and make your spare accounts next.

Go to the command prompt link in start/accessories, right click and select "run as administrator". You may need the admin password. When the command window and prompt appear, type. "net user administrator /active:yes" (without quotes). If all goes well, you should see that the command was successful. You didn't mention which version of Win 7 you had but, with Pro, you can do this through secpol too. BTW, you shouldn't need to create a guest account as Windows 7 already has one by that name. You may need to make it active, however.
