Buy an external disk and use that in stead of DVD's. Backing up to DVD is oldfashioned and cumbersome.

I do know it is old-fashioned friend, but I am asking for a solution not an alternative. I cannot figure out why it happens!

Maybe you had a bad batch of DVD's

Been there and done that.
I always keep a set of System Image Disc's on hand.
Ext. HDD's have been known to fail also

Theres actually nothing wrong with the DVDs or DVD rom
I also cannot make it on my 16 Gigabyte USB 3.0 memory stick, it said it is not NTFS and I formatted but still this option is unavailable

That's nonsense
Nov 22, 2015 8:40AM PST

It's not like you're shuffling them like a deck of cards .I have always made a set of disc's when I purchased computers that didn't come with disc's and they all worked just fine.
I make 1 set for each computer as well as back ups on external HDD's and have never had a failure with the exception of when I tried dual layer discs.

You're the only one who thinks that.
Nov 22, 2015 8:47AM PST

Bob has said the same thing about DVDs. What's nonsense is backing up to DVDs when doing it with an external hard drive is so greatly faster and reliable. Do it the obsolete unreliable time consuming way if you must, but there's no logical reason to be so masochistic.

Nobody's backing up with DVD's

We're making progress. :-)

When you get a new computer, you should make the discs the manufacturer recommends to restore to factory settings and install drivers and any other software that came pre-installed. But for backup you need to have a setup for making them automatically to an external hard drive if you have any kind of data you don't want to lose.

I suggested an alternative, because I don't know a solution. Let's hope that somebody else does.

There are so many prior discussions on that error.
Nov 22, 2015 7:31AM PST

And I'll write the backup you noted is failure prone plus has had issues with restore.

If this is the native windows backup you should be getting advice to use anything else. If you feel that it should work, talk to Microsoft but they charge for the chat and since it's unreliable, you might get it working but find out later the restore problems.

Use anything else.

It should work but I don't think Microsoft would give us a solution for it. It seems it will remain unsolved forever! I may try one of my Drives to keep the backup.

- Collapse -
Not that it hasn't been made to work
Nov 22, 2015 8:11AM PST

And later folk discover restoring has issues or fails. Microsoft's backup in the past worked for the 80% of folk from my rough count of working vs. issues on restore. Hey if you want to use unreliable, you can google prior discussions about it but my advice is to use anything else. Those that worked this question before usually stop trying to fix it and change their answer as they discover that the backup worked but restore didn't.

As Monty Python goes, run away, run away.

Actually I am using DVD-R 16X, shall I use the DVD-RW instead?

"Record at half the media speed or drive speed. Whichever is lower."

For 16X I set it to 8X so to not push my luck.

DVD+RW

Just to give my very experience, I used DVD+RW and also DVD 8.7 but none worked!
I HAVE TO go for storing it on External Hard drive!

It allows for the volume to be spread across numerous DVD's. You create the files from the volume and then burn them one by one.

A short explainer.
Nov 23, 2015 1:05PM PST

When this backup system runs it seems to take 10 or so GB or more to create the images needed. So if the free space on the volume that we want to backup is over half full you see this sort of error. Remember there are some thousand prior discussions so I keep it short.

so practically it is impossible to backup a system on DVDs? then what is this option for?

My curiosity got to me again.
Nov 24, 2015 9:32PM PST

Something is not right here. It failed because not enough space, so did it went through the burn process and tell you or is this before it burn. I asked because I thought you can use as many as it is needed. I am curious as to how you did it (procedure).

Nov 26, 2015 12:38AM PST

No it happened before the burning starts, this process is something like "checking" and the burning never happens.
