Only old school folk that didn't have switched hubs ask about subnets.
Now if you want to create limits on bandwidths that usually ends up with folk melting down over the complexity. In short you learn all about linux based routers. There is no cheaper off the shelf solution and no click here to create solution. It's a bit of hard work but if you want it, you know what to look into next.

I am wondering if it's possible to create more than one network with one connection to prevent everyone on the same network to slow down everyone else for being connected to the internet at the same time.
basically if i have a 10 MB connection is there a way i can make one network to be say 1 MB for web browsing, another 3 MB for youtube, streaming etc... and the other 6 MB for gaming.
this way everyone in the same household isn't slowing down everyone else.
would i need multiple routers for this, or i need two internet connections that have nothing to do with each other, or is this just simply not possible.
I am curious about this because the day my kids grow up i don't want them to be slowing me down or me slowing them down or having to hear that my son is downloading/streaming and his sister can't even do her homework or go online because he has taken all the bandwidth for himself.
