Question

Crazy things happening with my computer, need help!

Apr 9, 2017 9:13AM PDT

Okay bought this build in November.
Asus Maximus VIII Formula
i7 6700k
gskill ram 16GB
gtx 1080
500GB SSD
windows 10
everything is custom waterlooped, gpu and cpu are on blocks.
When i first put together this computer, i had problems with my cpu overheating. To my finding, my cpu block wasnt configured properly, but before fixing that, i noticed my processor was bent in a corner, due to my cpu block either being on too tight or just me being careless, regardless. I put that processor in my wifes computer and it would turn on, then off immediately. Putting the processor back into my computer AFTER i figured it was my waterblock, the computer...turned on and has worked wonderfuly ever since. I had a stable OC of 4.7 for about 4 months, until lately..
Past few weeks, i have been getting posting errors of B2 and 99. Reading up on this, it was stated that it could be just about anything lol..at first the problem was curable by just switching my DP cable into a different port on my GPU, but slowly and surely lately this has failed to cure the problem. As sometimes my computer will post, and sometimes i will get the B2 error. I guess yo ucan say i get lucky, if my monitor even turns on. The lights come on, fans, but no monitor signal or even my keyboard and mouse are turning on. After doing the recommended thing of changing out my RAM, i did, and everything was running great for a day, then my problems started happening again. So I dont really know what the hell is going on here. Changing out RAM, reseating it and or changing it temporarily fixes my problems, only now i've been getting BSOD while playing games, and just getting this stupid error randomly when i restart my PC. What should i do?

Overclocking?

Then it's anyone's guess what will be stable or what will fail next. That is, I have yet to find any store or maker support such.

Go back to stock settings now and see if it's stable. If not you have the parts that took damage from the first issues of this build. You may be looking at a new motherboard as you can't fix the dinged up socket or a CPU if it's taken damage.

Maybe?

But if its the motherboard or cpu, how come reseating, changing out my RAM temp fixes it? I know CPU's have memory modulators. ( i think thats what it is)

If this is fixed.

I have to guess it's not fixed now.

As it fails again, the original damage is likely continuing to cause issues. These sockets are fragile and not replaceable so to figure it out, you change the motherboard.

Get the OC out of the mix.

Tell that you have a 600w single rail psu.
If that's the 'ti' model gpu make that 700w.

If you have physical damage consider that a likely suspect.

Still can't find out the issue.

I have a 1000w psu. Its GTX 1080 FE, not a TI..
Its not the cpu, its not the motherboard, it's not the RAM.
I completely stripped the pc, and put the GPU (gtx 1080) into my wifes computer, which has the exact same specs as mine, except for the motherboard. Everything is back to stock settings, nothing OC, reinstalled windows, and i get the same FPS on her PC.
I ran heaven benchmark, and according to a youtube video, im getting the same fps as he is, but when i play BF1 or overwatch my fps is dismal. I was getting over 120+ on ultra settings in BF1, and now im lucky if i get 60. Playing fallout 4 i get 140fps easy. The **** is very weird and inconsistent. My gpu is at 95-99%
usage, temps are stupid good, like around 40c. I used DDU for drivers, installed new driver..is it possible that the GPU is just bad? Maybe online games only im getting bad fps? I have no viruses, or malware.

If this problem follows the gpu from machine to machine it's a suspect.

If this problem is with on-line games only then your internet is a suspect.

If your connected wireless go wired and test.

If the trouble follows the GPU

That could be it.

But about the 1000W PSU. There are models with that much Wattage but are junk because the +12V rails are many and low Amperes.

So let's call the 1000W PSU SUSPECT UNTIL WE GET THE FULL MODEL NUMBER to check the rails.
