crazy ping and download speed

May 8, 2008 6:07AM PDT

Ok, ive been trying to figure this out myself for months. I have Quest dsl internet. I do the speak easy speed test every few weeks, and it always shows me a download rate of between 1300-1400kbps. Now, whenever i try and download from a web server, the maxium download speed i ever get is 157kbps. My gaming ping is also outrageous, having a 180 ping on a us server. Is there anyway i could fix this delema?

the thing is watever package u purchase from the ISP ... whether it be 1MB or 10 MB ... that doesnt actually mean your actual download speed on a torrent or the web will be 1 mb or 10 , the internet has a certain policy or i dnt knw its been like this since a while ... watever package u have , ur actual download speed is going to be 1/8th of it ... so if have a 1mb package ur download speed will be around 120 - 130 .. 150 if ur lucky ... hjope it answers ur question

Download speed

Advertised speeds from a typical ISPs and internet speed tests are in kbps (kilo bits per second). Typically when downloading from an internet web server the speed is given in kBps (kilo Bytes per second). 8 bits = 1 Byte. So a download speed of 157 kBps would equate to around 1256 kbps (157 * Cool.

run a valid test?
Aug 8, 2011 4:01AM PDT

bkbrookshire has a point, however in order to be sure, the best thing to do is run various speed tests from vaious sites throughout the day. you mentioned speakeasy, have you tried http://www.internetspeedcheck.co.uk/ or the thinkbroadband tool? often when i run tests from different sites they give different results. run a few tests and take an average..
