Crazy Diapup/Norton AV/Event Manager

Feb 25, 2004 7:53AM PST

All of a sudden my computer has started dialing up at startup and shutdown and I have no idea why.

The program that's doing it is C\Program Files\common files\Symantec Shared\ccevtmgr.exe.

I am runninfgWindows 98 with IE 6.0 SP1. I don't know how to stop it. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Dorothy,

ccevtmgr - ccevtmgr.exe - Process Information
Process File: ccevtmgr or ccevtmgr.exe
Process Name: Symantec Event Manager Service
Description: Program associated with Norton AntiVirus 2003/4. The program is responsible for keeping track of all events that occur within the previously-mentioned products and then writing the details of those events to the Activity Log.
Company: Symantec Corporation
System Process: No

I will try to find out on Norton's webpage if I can find anything what is going on - but maybe someone jumps in to tell you HOW to stop it.

Dial-up networking attempts repeatedly to connect during startup and shutdown after installing Norton AntiVirus

Situation:
You installed Norton AntiVirus (NAV) and may have run LiveUpdate. When you restart the computer, your dial-up connection repeatedly prompts you to connect to the Internet. This may also occur during shutdown. You must click Cancel repeatedly to stop the process. Sometimes you may need to connect briefly to the Internet to stop the process.

Solution:
This problem occurs on computers that connect to the Internet via modem (dial-up connection) when Internet Explorer is configured to "Dial whenever a network connection is not present." It can also be caused if the certain Internet Explorer security settings are enabled. To resolve the problem, try each solution in the order listed.

much! This has been driving me crazy for days. I have had Norton AV for several years and this never happened.

I checked the security settings and one had a checkmark which I removed.

All is back to normal. Thank you! How are you feeling and have they replaced your loss yet?

One checkmark made this happen? Luckily it was easy to find !

No, not yet - in the meantime it's "hard work" Happy
