CPU usage

by bon44 / November 2, 2009 2:15 AM PST

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3
AMD Processor 2800+
797 MHz, 1.25 GB Ram

I've been having problems with my computer hanging and when I check in the Task Mgr. I find the CPU is 100%. This time it did it I had just used Windows Media Player. I had closed the player, but my computer kept running something in the backgroud and that is when I checked the Task Mgr.

It was winplayer.exe that was running. Does anyone know what was going on and why? I ended up stopping it manually. It really slowed my computer to a turtle's pace.

Thanks.

Adjust your startup menu

You need to adjust which programs are started up when the desktop comes up.
The CPU can only handle a limited load. If the player is memory intensive, you probably should get a lighter one- on resources that is.

I did that, but it still is running
by bon44 / November 2, 2009 7:11 AM PST

I disabled the windows media player service...under services.

It still does the same thing.

In the Task Mgr. the name of the file it is running in the background after I shut down my Windows Media player is wmplayer.exe

Any suggestions.

Also, I did at the previous poster suggested and checked my start up menu and there is very little in there and no windows media player.

Thanks.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
