CPU upgrade for motherboard

Apr 26, 2015 12:27PM PDT

Hi, I just recently acquired a DG965RY motherboard with a LGA 775 cpu socket, the motherboard is http://ark.intel.com/products/22637/Intel-Desktop-Board.... I dont care if people think that this motherboard is out of date, I have no choice in the matter but to upgrade this cpu. So since we got that out of the way, what would be the best cpu I could put on this motherboard? Also wouldn't a core E8600 fit the motherboard? and if there is a better cpu I could put on it please tell me Happy .Was just wondering this because this site http://www.game-debate.com/motherboard/index.php?mot_id..., and this one says it will http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/index.php?pid=6&mob..., but this one say it cant http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatiblePr.... So im just a bit perplexed lol Happy

even though the intel site doesnt show the e8600, could it still work on it, after all the processor came out 2 years after the motherboard was made, so would it be possible that its compatible they just didnt write it down because it didnt come out the same year?

Rolling the dice?

So you know, I never plug in a CPU unless it's on the motherboard support list. Why? Too expensive to find out and could fry a chip. Motherboards dynamically adjust Vcore and more voltages and if the BIOS is not aware of this CPU it could zap it. Not that it should but without the CPU's parameters in the BIOS it's a dice roll with loaded dice against you winning.

Really thinking about it

Lol, I guess I win some and lose some, I will try it anyway, its a 7 year old cpu anyways nothing really gained and nothing really lost Happy

If you're perplexed, there's a good reason, It's not a good idea.
But it's your money, spend it Devil

I've used them almost exclusively

and had no problems with them, but then I avoid those over 90w in power, prefer to keep it at 65w or below. My worst problems have been with motherboards, particular during the bad caps years.

Doubting.

It's rarely the CPU that sets the pace of the games but the GPU. I missed what GPU you have.

There are good reviews for the 750 Ti.

My thought is yes and with the GTX 750 Ti it should work
Apr 27, 2015 9:40AM PDT

OK..

The good news is if you find it's NOT enough CPU, you can re-use the 750 Ti in another platform.

Might also be good to check the PSU to ensure it's got enough power to run GTX 750 Ti.

Keep us posted.

Just make sure you have cables with

connecters allowing you to power the GPU....sometimes these updated cables come with the video card depending on which card you buy.

Let us know how it turns out.
