Question

CPU Temps way to high

Jan 12, 2015 2:01PM PST

I just reseated my cpu and my cooler because i thought i was getting way to high of temps while doing small FFT's on prime 95. I was getting around 93C. After i reseated my cpu and cooler though and I ran the stress test again it instantly jumped up to 100C. Could something else be wrong?

System:
CPU: I5-4670k @ 4.16MHz 1.176V (Asus optimal settings)
Cooler: H100i
Mobo: Asus Z87-A
Ram:Corsair Vengeance 2x4 1333MHz
GPU:EVGA GTX 970 SC
PSU: Corsair CX 750M

(NT) Reseat? Did you replace the heatsink compound?

Yes, I made sure that nothing was wrong with the pins, cleaned the thermal paste off, applied new thermal paste and put it back on. Could I have applied to much pressure while cleaning the CPU and caused it to damage the pins?

That's not a 4GHz CPU.

Just fixed my OC

So I took it off asus optimal mode and put it back onto balance. It brought my voltages down to 99.94 and my temps were about 72C from the single minute I ran the same test. Those temps are a lot more pleasing to see, but why is it that I see other people overclocking to 4.6ghz on the same processor as mine and yet maintain lower temps with the same cooler as well.

Is a long shot. Not all CPUs are equal at OC'ing but that's still pretty hot. What's the Delta C number?

What?

What is Delta C?

- Collapse -
Delta C would be CPU temp - Case Temp.

It's the real measure of cooling efficiency. Some folk have tried cramming machines in the nano cases and learned this the hard way.

Not the CPU case temp but the air temp in the area around the CPU.

Answer
Check temperature range

For Standard Ambient = 22C, Tcase (CPU Temp) = 72C, CPU / Core Offset + 5C, Tjunction (Core Temp) = 77C, Tj Max (Shutdown Temp) = 105C
