Question

CPU fan will not stay on

May 19, 2014 6:55AM PDT

Need help. My CPU fan turns on when I first hit the power button, but then turns off at the start of the boot-up process. CPU will boot-up and run normally for a few minutes then turn off with overheat message. Next power-up stops with cpu fan fail. Swapped out cpu fan with new fan but still the same indications. Is my motherboard fried or is this a software issue? Changed the BIOS fan setting with no change. Thank you

Why not connect the fan directly to another power connection and keep it running?

Another way to fix it

CPU fans usually only have one place they can connect to and that's from the power supply. The power supplies usually only have one connector for the CPU fan. You're dealing with a short. Replacing the power supply should fix this issue.
