Cowon O2 + Archos 5 small price difference. Which one?

Dec 6, 2008 6:56AM PST

Hi everyone!

I have been debating between archos 5 and cowon o2 (32GB).... I am actually trying to get one of these for my wife so she can drag-n-drop her video files, pics and music onto the player.......

I like the way both of the players look... The main dilemma is the small price difference....

On newegg.com O2 (32GB) sells for $300..... while Archos 5 (60GB) sells gor $350............ so a $50 difference.....

I have seen that archos 5 does support a good amount of file types but is the list of file types on the O2 larger?

To add to my weirdness I also thought that at about $350 I could get her a nice little asus eee PC 904HA....... I'm probably going crazy with all of this!

All in all, for the price which is the better player
(user friendly ..... for the wife)

Thanks guys!

Seen Archos for a little cheaper

The Archos 60gb is selling for $319.95 free shipping at B&H photo. Though the Archos charges for extra codec support. I can't speak first hand for the UI, I've only read reviews and forums, but the O2 looks to have a less crammed menu(though no ID3 Tag Browsing).

FYI on the Archos 5

One of my friends has one. While it is a really nice player (he got it instead of the 2nd gen iPod Touch), it has a really short battery life and takes an incredibly long time to charge, even with an AC adapter. If you're thinking of getting one, you might want to consider the extra cost of getting one of these accessories to help charge it faster: dvr station, mini dock, battery dock. And also keep in mind that you have to buy these specific to the Archos 5. Those for earlier generations are not compatible.
