Cowon iAudio U3: Subscription Music Question

I'm seriously considering getting a Cowan iAudio U3 for someone for Christmas. However, I've heard rumors about Cowon releasing a firmware update that will enable people to use subscription services.

Forgive my ignorance, but can a player that I buy NOW (before the release) be updated with the upcoming release later on (with some sort of software update)? Or, will only players bought AFTER the firmware is released be able to use subscription services?

a firmware upgrade means they'll set up a patch that everyone can download after they buy the product. So, you're all set if you want to buy that U3 now before the holiday season really kicks in.
