Cowon A2 or Creative Zen Vision W?

by cheetosandmovies / November 15, 2006 4:34 PM PST

I want to get a PVP, so I've been doing some research and I've narrowed down my choices to the Creative Zen Vision W or the Cowon A2 (but I'm open to suggestions). I'm not all that savvy about file formats or converting them and most of the videos that I've downloaded are AVIs. Do both of these players play them without having to convert them first? What other players will do this? Which do you think I should get?

Some other portable media players to consider.

I'm also trying to figure out what the best portable media player might be--which for my purposes are slightly different than yours in that I'm more interested in still image storage--but I suggest you also look at the following: Toshiba MES60VK Gigabeat (60 GB) portable media player, Microsoft's Zune, and the Apple 30 GB IPod/Video.

All the choices are dependent on the usage.. But remember the PVPs are mainly for viewing videos.. So i personally prefer to view them in Widescreen and the experience in viewing videos in Creative Vision W or the Cowon A2 will be unmatched... Neither the Ipod 30gig nor the Gigabit would be able to match the widescreen experience..

Let me add some info.. The Biggest drawback of the creative W is that it lacks in line Audio or Video recording.. Whereas the Cowon A2 lack the facility of removable battery, also it lacks Windows Media DRM feature.. A2 is definitely more sleeker than the W, but the creative's videos seem to have a slightly smoother flow, but this difference is very very minute though..

So the deciding factor between the A2 and the W is very narrow and purely depends on the user.. If you are more into video recording then go for the A2, if you may need to swap batteries for longer performances then go for the Creative W.. If you like it sleek then go for the A2 or if you like the controls to be really simple then go for the 'W'...
So as you see both the A2 and the W are very good players, the deciding factor is purely the need and taste of the user.. But definitely both of them wont disappoint you..

Also if you would want another very very good option, (to confuse yourself more:)) would be the highly rated Archos AV500 Mobile DVR (30GB)...

Good luck!!
