Sorry but no such thing exists in an easy to use, push that button and whammo it's done form. I'm sure you could contract out such a thing but I fear it would take a few suitcases of cash and a 24 hour support team to even come close.
Remember it's not that you're the only one but the industry has created copy protection (see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=vhs+macrovision ) , proprietary encoding methods that you can't deploy without paying a royalty (see mpegla.com) and there are some dozen more reasons you don't find such a device.
But there is hope. If you take a look at this again, a lot of your content is not HD so if you don't have HD content, why bother putting it there?

I am looking for a one-stop shop device that can 1 - convert my home movies hi hg 8mm casettes and dvd rw 1.4 gig mini disks to removable hard drive storage and 2 convert all of the movies I own VHS and DVD to removable hard drives. My intention is to have a computer connected to my hi - def TV for play back of anything I own. I have searched the internet and can find bits and pieces, but no device for the electrically challenged folk such as myself. My dream is to have a plug and play unit that will receive my media and convert it to a digital format without distortion. If anyone knows of such device or is talented enough to make one for purchase, I would be most grateful.
Thanks, Ron
