Count me in as one of the Vista "giver uppers"

I give up! I really have tried to like this thing, but I just ordered Another copy of XP and will do my damndest to get in installed as soon as it gets here. I'm hoping it arrives on Friday or ever Saturday. Right now, I'm getting my courage and knowledge base up for the transfer. I've done quite a few things with computers but have NEVER installed an OS in my life, let alone removed one. I will cherish any advice and help that I can get.

Here's my Machine and the stats. Ask if you need more info

Emachines W3615
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz
1014 MB
32 bit operating system

With of course Windows Vista Home Premium
0.99 GB RAM
Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family

Assuming it's a Windows XP CD you ordered and not an eMachines recovery system CD you ordered, you can use this step-by-step guide to reinstall Windows XP. If it is the eMachines recovery system you ordered, the process is similar with the on-screen instructions guiding you through most of it. Regardless, note that the process will permanently erase ALL data stored on the drive, so backup and personal files, bookmarks, etc. before proceeding.

Perhaps we could help you sort out the problems you're experiencing with Vista, though? It would save you an hour or two of work and enable you to sell the new copy of XP your just purchased.

Give us a shout back.
John

That's really not a problem about the backing up of files, I really have nothing on this machine yet of any importance. Its only a couple of weeks old and I really dislike what Vista just will not do! I like to enjoy flight simulators. The Vista will accept some programs but will not even load most of them. I tried to try out the Linux program Freespire, but it also would not load. I can load the program(s) on my old machine with no problems at all. I remember when XP came out with problems, but it really didn't seem this bad! I have downloaded DBAN and am simply waiting on the mailman to deliver the XP..

maybe i'll go back in may/june once more folks get real drivers together and real vista-ready software. between the beta drivers, a bunch of incompatible programs, and the dang uac, i couldn't take it either.

when you install xp, be prepared for a slew of updates (i think it was 70 initially). it took me the better part of a day to get it up-to-date.

Reinstall of XP- a pure CD install of XP is now requiring about 66+ immediate updates- thats a long time sitting there downloading, plus I like the options for "Kill that bloody 'Tour' window and all the popup messages. To say nothing of the Reg fixes and Cleartype.
